Artist Statement
In my life, I’ve come to realize a lot of things, one of them being that the simple things should be appreciated so much more than they are. I always like to do little things for people, such as holding the door, letting them borrow something, just random acts of kindness. You never know when something like that will brighten someone’s day or even do something nice back to you! Doing these little things for people also establishes a strong connection between me and them, and this is my favorite consequence of it.
I decided to use this concept as a ceramic artist. I find that the simple things, when added together, can make something marvelously complex and intricate. I like to use lines and simple shapes such as circles, triangles, or squares to create repetitious patterns. When put together, it is easy to forget that the framework for it was so simple, and that is the beauty of it.
